An Onsted graduate was wounded in
the War on Terrorism in Iraq last month. He was
wounded when a bullet grazed his leg and shrapnel hit another while
"cleaning houses" in Iraq.
|
He was injured in a raid
targeting Al Quadi leadership. His mother said that the American
contingent was backing up Iraqi Army troops in the home raids, but that
the Iraqis panicked upon entering a home and finding resistance.
He was the first American in
the house, said his mother, and when "the bullets started flying" he called
out for the others not to follow.
The Army was
prompt in letting her know about her son's injury. She initially
received a call from the unit sergeant, then the captain, and soon after
that received a phone call from the Department of the Army in
Washington.
"It was very reassuring," she
said.

She said that she was also proud
of her son, who, authorities informed her, followed protocol and did not
open fire randomly when things got chaotic.
She was also informed that the
insurgent leader was captured sneaking out the back of the house.
"I am happy to hear that,"
The mother
told authorities. "If my boy is hurt, I am happy you got the guy
you were after."
This Onsted graduate was treated for the injury
and has returned to active duty.
